Jungle Girl at DragonCon 2010

Hello Everyone,

Wow I haven't been to this blog in over a year! SHAME ON ME! And yes, Lyuba-chan is still me. I didn't realize right away that I can create more than one blog under the same user name, so that's why I have two 'different' contributors. I can't stand having to log in under different account every time, so I just added my main profile as a contributor. When I get back home from work I'll look into trying to combine my profiles, and hopefully it will be possible. :)

I haven't been cosplaying much in 2009 or 2010, mostly because I'm unhappy with myself right now. Or getting burned out on convention going because I feel like I've seen it all already. And it's too crowded anyway, so I can't even get into any panels. However, that said I did go to DragonCon for the first time last September, and of course I had to cosplay.

Enter my version of Jungle Girl. You might remember this post from London Film and Comic Con and wonder why didn't I wear the wig again. Because I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT! It looks so fake when I was going for a natural blonde hair color. I ordered a color wheel with wig color examples from Cosworx, so hopefully the next wig I buy will be exactly what I'm looking for. Anyways, because of that reason I decided to go with my natural hair.

Mandatory Pin-up pose. Because I'm into Pin-ups :)

As you can see, I didn't take that many photos mainly because I was so not impressed with the convention that I didn't want to take any photos. I know some of you might think I'm crazy for thinking that, but really I didn't care that much for DragonCon. The highlight of my trip was hanging out with friends and meeting some of The Guiild cast.

But it looks like I will give conventions another chance. In April I plan on going to Kapow Comic Con because I really want to meet Liam Sharp. Of course that means wearing my Red Sonja costume :)

Alone for the weekend.

Hm... it seems like I never have anything nice to say here huh? Always rant, rant and rant! ;P It's just I don't get out much and not because I don't want to. We live in a super small town called The Village of Lakenheath, and it's really just one street long! The only things of note in this town are little grocery shop and a super old cemetery. There is nothing within 30min drive of where I live except fields and fields. And did I mentioned that my car is not in a working order now? There is nothing really wrong with it other than steering wheel lock up, but because it's an American car, British shops have hard time figuring out how to fix it. One of the shops advised us to take it to this one place where they have American specialist, but now my husband works days and now this weekend... and possibly next weekend too. Yeah...

So since I'm all alone at home this weekend I'll try to get some ACEO done. My Prismacolor pencils didn't survive the trip all that well, they keep breaking on me making them useless! :( I still don't have any Plexiglas for bigger works, but good think I don't need it for ACEO ;)

I also got some photos of myself from London Film and Comic Con. Chris Achilleos was nice enough to email me the photos her took. :)

London Film and Comic Con...

was quite a disappointment to me. The second we walked in (Ducky and I), I felt like turning around and leaving. Guess I'm spoiled by SDCC and AWA conventions, to which London Film and Comic Con didn't even come close to. Or maybe I just had very high hopes for this convention, since it's London Film and Comic Con and I was expecting something big. Turned out, it wasn't big at all. To all Pensacolians, imagine 2 Civic centers together. Most of the booth sold photos and posters for guest signings, and the most emphasis was put on media guests and getting photos with them. Of course, there were plenty guests (aka movie stars) but because I didn't much care for any of them, it didn't have any impact on me.

There were few comic book artists and the highlight of my day was meeting Arthur Suydam :) I fell in love with his art after seeing his Red Sonja covers for Savage Tales. I ended up getting every print of RS he had :)

I couldn't resist taking a picture with him.

I also debuted my Jungle Girl costume.

At first I didn't even wanted to cosplay because like I said, I was so disappointed I wanted to leave but then I thought that I worked hard on it so might as well show it off. Needless to say my costume was the most 'adventurous' at the convention ;P Haha, Ducky had fun listening to guys making comments behind my back and then nonchalantly telling them that I'm his wife. Oh that husband of mine! :) Unfortunately, because of the reasons stated about I don't have many pictures from LFCC at all :(

Another highlight was meeting Chris Achilleous. Of course I had no idea who he was until I saw and recognized some of his art, mainly the Heavy Metal film poster. I guarantee 90% of you know which one! :) I got his Medusa book and exchanged information with him. Maybe in a future I could be one of his models?

Although I got tickets for both days, I decided not to come back for the 2nd day. I already saw everything it had to offer, and met all the people I wanted to meet. Of course I'm super happy I got to meet Arthur Suydam, but for the next year I'm only going to plan on going for one day.
